Beauty: Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Palette Review Is It Worth The Money?

Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Palette - £41 from Cult Beauty
Whenever any new palette is released from Anastasia Beverley Hills, there’s always a bit of controversy but never as much as there has been about their newest launch, the subculture eye shadow palette. If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you’ll know I love an eye shadow palette launch and I knew I had to order this as soon as it became available on Beauty Bay/Cult Beauty.

Despite their being A LOT of mixed opinions on this palette online, I ordered it, as I wanted to make my own mind up, especially as I love the Modern Renaissance palette. I think it’s refreshing to see a new eye shadow palette where the colours are unique and have a mixture of light and dark shades. I personally don’t have a lot of colours in this palette (especially the yellows and greens!)

So, onto the palette… first of all the packaging is the same as the Modern Renaissance palette as I suspected and I have to admit I’m not the biggest fan of the packaging. I much prefer the hard case style of a palette (like the Urban Decay Naked Heat) as I know the packaging will last longer.

(L-R Cube, Dawn, Destiny, Adorn, All Star, Mercury, Axis)
Immediately, the shades in the palette that drew me in were Roxy, Adorn, Electric and New Wave. I love how different the colours in this palette are and I love how the colours are very autumnal. As you can see from the swatches, the colour pay off of this palette is incredible. I really love the shades against my skin tone and I have loved trying out different looks with this palette. I am so glad that I own this palette as it's encouraged me to use colours i'd normally be afraid of using!

(L-R Roxy, Electric, Fudge, New Wave, Untamed, Edge and Rowdy)

My favourite shades from the bottom row are Dawn, Electric and New Wave. Overall, the most used shades in this palette so far are Roxy, Dawn, Adorn and All Star. I am dying to try out more looks and use New Wave, Edge and Electric. I also like this palette as the shade names include my other half’s surname but also the name of my 5-month-old Cockapoo, fudge!

In regards to how powdery the shadows are and pay off, I find the shades to be just as powdery as the Modern Renaissance palette so it doesn’t make that much difference but I am careful to use this palette with a light hand as I don’t fancy hitting pan on this palette anytime soon!

What do you think of Subculture? Will you be buying this palette?

The palette is so gorgeous! But with all the negativity around it I won't buy the palette.

I don't own Modern Renaissance but it's definitely in my purchase list. I might just pick this up too!
